During a week in August of 2021 that contained a series of near-death experiences from heart disease complications, I had an unstable angina attack and passed out, and for a second I was suspended in peace for the first time in my life before returning to a world of chronic injustice.

Liminality – my new experimental classical music album – attempts to interpret that second, and loosely translates the reflections of an untethered Other. With Liminality, I meditate on the liminal spectrum that was my life before that second, during that second, and post that second.

Liminality is the process of healing, transformation, and reclaiming my authority over my own authenticity
... traveling through the spectrum of living an authentic life out of fear, to living an authentic life rooted in love
... traveling through the spectrum of discomfort from having to code-switch to survive, to unmasking and designing healthy environments and relationships where I can thrive
... where I can be the one to choose when and how to finally release myself into the universe.


Liminality translates transitions...
... across borders
... across boundaries
... across thresholds
... across spaces
... between love and hatred
... between calm and fear
... between belonging and estrangement
... between acceptance and ostracization
... between growth and destruction
... between healing and wounds
... between consent and coercion
... between cooperation and force
... between inclusion and exclusion
... between peace and war
... between life and death.

Liminality is...
... the silence between our heartbeats
... the gray between absolutes
... the space between doors
... the hallway between rooms
... the lobby of hotels
... the waiting areas at airport terminals
... exploration and yearning
... it is the meaning lost between translations
... the conversations between different species
... it is the hopes and dreams before a catastrophe
... the history and cultures erased and rewritten by colonizers
... it is the rejection of conventions
... the wind born without a shadow
... it is the infinity between our glances
... the recognition of the Other
... it is the instance when beings become aware of their selves and environments
... it is the invisible matter between my consciousness and yours.
